Summing up the extent of his company’s achievements to date, Great Bear’s president and CEO Chris Taylor explains: “It’s an incredible privilege to see a discovery of this magnitude unfold in real time. If I work another 30 years in this industry, I may never again see another project with such a great combination of multiple gold zones, high grades, near-surface gold mineralization, and proximity to existing mines, as well as all the regional mining infrastructure, that we see at Dixie.”
Taylor’s enthusiasm is shared by Kevin MacKenzie, a mining analyst at Canaccord Genuity. A fellow geologist, MacKenzie understands the significance of what he refers to as Great Bear’s “dynamic” discoveries:
“We highlight Great Bear as a prospective investment for risk-tolerant investors,” MacKenzie says. “This exploration company wholly owns an emerging discovery with the right signature, and drilling is ongoing at Great Bear’s Dixie project in Ontario. Interesting intercepts to date have been high-grade, at 68.7 g/t gold over seven meters, 16.8 g/t gold over 10.4 metres and 1,602 g/t gold over 0.7 metres.”
However, the true value of Great Bear’s district-scale discoveries has yet to be unlocked, MacKenzie explains. “Drill testing to date at Dixie has only just scratched the surface of what may be a much more expansive gold-bearing system plunging to depth.”
These extraordinary gold finds could be the shot in the arm that Canada’s gold exploration industry so badly needs after so many disappointments in recent years. And with resurgent bullion prices, the timing could not be more opportune.
Thankfully, good luck tends to beget more good luck. In the case of Great Bear, we’re witnessing a company that has created its own good fortune as its reward for plenty of inspiration, perseverance and good old-fashioned hard work. Other gold explorers, as well as the speculative investors who finance them, will surely take heart from this sensational success story in the making.
Over the past few weeks, Great Bear announced that the newly-discovered “Bear-Rimini”, “Yuma” and “Auro” gold zones ar
e returning such dazzling drill intercepts that they individually demonstrate as much potential as the earlier, nearby high-grade “Hinge-Dixie Limb” discoveries. The one tantalizing difference is that these new discovery zones are in different rock types to those which host most of the gold in Red Lake. Geologically these discoveries have the hallmarks of many of the famous gold camps that trend across northern Ontario into Quebec, where names like Kirkland Lake and Val D’Or have become a key part of the fabric of Canadian mining.
To put this newest discovery into perspective, it’s worth noting that less than one in a thousand drill programs result in a mine being built, according to the industry’s own rule of thumb. But the odds against finding two rich gold systems, that may contain multiple gold deposits more or less side by side are too long to even try to calculate.
Nonetheless, this appears to be what Great Bear has achieved with its summer 2019 discovery of the near-surface Bear-Rimini, Yuma and Auro gold zones just one kilometre away from the Hinge-Dixie Limb discovery zones. The latest drill results include very high gold grades, such as 194.21 g/t gold over 2.00 metres, and wide intervals of high-grade gold, including 5.28 g/t gold over 42.00 metres. What’s equally impressive is that both of these impressive gold discoveries begin less than 50 metres below the surface.
