Unity Software - U

Unity's technology is widely used. In 2019 more than half of the top 1,000 games in the App Store and Google's Play Store were built with Unity, the company said in Monday's filing. In addition to offering the game engine for development, Unity derives revenue from service that can help companies monetize their content, including through advertising. Customers include BMW, EA, Microsoft, Niantic, Sony, Tencent and Zynga.

Unity is de maker van 's werelds meest gebruikte real-time 3D-ontwikkelingsplatform en geeft ontwikkelaars over de hele wereld de tools om rijke, interactieve 2D-, 3D-, VR- en AR-ervaringen te creëren. Hun grootste concurrent is Unreal Engines.

Unity Bolsters Indie Game Developer Success with Game Growth Program

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Unity, the world’s leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content, today announced the launch of its Game Growth Program. Aimed at supporting mobile free-to-play games, the program provides developers access to technology, resources, and funding for user acquisition to effectively scale their games. Unique to this partnership is that developers maintain full creative control and ownership of their intellectual property (IP) in the process, and upon completion of the program, leave with full ownership of the game and what it has gained, with no permanent revenue share commitments to Unity from the partnership. With a specific focus on supporting the Indie game community, developers can submit their games for program consideration. If selected, Unity will partner with them to design and accelerate a robust player engagement strategy, comprised of full game support, including user acquisition campaigns, optimized monetization via ads and in-app purchases, and player analytics.

“Great games often go unnoticed, especially within the Indie segment,” said Julie Shumaker, Vice President of Revenue, Operate Solutions, Unity. “We believe creators shouldn’t choose between their entertainment vision and the tactical execution required to build audiences and make money. Ultimately, the Game Growth Program supports developers in the journey to yield the highest success for their game all while retaining ownership of their company and IP. Our measurement for success is that these participating developers will eventually outgrow the program because they’ve built a sustainable business that can stand on its own as a result.”

The Game Growth Program provides selected developers with a dedicated team of Unity experts who partner and educate on user acquisition, player engagement, and monetization strategies. In turn, this frees-up developers’ internal teams to remain focused on the core game to make the improvements necessary for success. Unity is also committing funds to the program to enable discovery and accelerate user acquisition through the use of ads, including Unity Ads as well as those available through outside networks. Unity Ads1 reports 22.9B+ monthly global ad impressions, reaching 2B+ monthly active end-users worldwide.

“Our Operate Solutions are known for helping customers solve critical growth and scaling challenges, independent of what engine was used to create the game,” said Felix Thé, Vice President of Product Management, Unity. “The Game Growth Program is incentivizing Unity creators of all sizes, no matter how small, with fundamental support so that the ultimate resource - creativity - is left unbridled and focused on making the best possible experience.”

Unity Announces Social Impact Division -- Pledges 750,000 Shares of Unity Equity to Fund Non-Profit Organizations
Thu, October 15, 2020,

Unity Charitable Fund established to deepen commitment to social responsibility

Unity (NYSE: U), the world’s leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content, today announced its Unity Social Impact division to empower employees and creators of all backgrounds to foster a more inclusive, sustainable world. The Social Impact division is underpinned by the establishment of the Unity Charitable Fund, in partnership with Tides Foundation, a program that provides the financial mechanism to bring the goals of Unity’s newly-formed division to life. The announcement marks the one week countdown to the Unity for Humanity Summit: a two-day event that assembles luminary creators, nonprofits, investors, and philanthropists harnessing real-time 3D technology to power social impact and real-world change.

"By coalescing social impact efforts into its own division at Unity, we’re now able to do more to have a positive impact for creators and communities around the globe," said Jessica Lindl, Vice President, Social Impact, Unity. "Unity has long made strides to make education and economic opportunity widely available, to ensure privacy and online safety, and to demonstrate environmental responsibility through sustainability initiatives. Unity Social Impact allows us to centralize these efforts, so we can identify new opportunities to foster a cleaner, safer, and more equitable world."

The Unity Social Impact division is built on three key pillars:

Education and Economic Opportunity for All - Unity contributes its products, technology and expertise to enable more than 300,000 students and teachers each year to learn and create with Unity to further its belief that learning should be accessible to everyone. The company partners with companies, nonprofits, and governments around the world to encourage inclusive economic growth for individuals and communities.

Sustainability - Unity is integrating environmental responsibility and sustainability initiatives throughout its operations, product, and overall business strategy, working proactively to reduce its carbon footprint across more than 40 offices worldwide.

Health and well-being – Unity believes that everyone deserves the ability to live a healthy life. Unity’s tools are being used to explore innovative and practical solutions for managing physical and mental health, train medical professionals, and test new healthcare technologies.

To support these pillars, Unity Social Impact has announced the establishment of the Unity Charitable Fund through a partnership with Tides Foundation: a philanthropic partner and nonprofit accelerator dedicated to building a world of shared prosperity and social justice. Seeded with 750,000 shares of Unity equity, the Unity Charitable Fund will provide direct grants to non-profit organizations in the areas of education, inclusive economic opportunity, environmental sustainability, safety and accessibility, and human wellness. Tides Foundation will serve as Unity’s partner for disbursement of the funds.

"Effective, authentic corporate philanthropy requires a thoughtful strategy that aligns with your company's values," said Leena Barakat, Director, Strategic Partnerships at Tides. "Giving creators access to funding to realize the changes they want to see in the world is core to our shared missions, bringing forth a tomorrow filled with shared prosperity, social justice, and limitless possibility."

The existing Unity for Humanity program provides selected impact-driven Made with Unity projects with funding, mentorship, and technical and marketing assistance. The program selects projects through a call for submissions, which will open on October 21, 2020.

Unity Social Impact will be a centerpiece of the Unity for Humanity Summit, a free two-day event taking place October 21 and 22. The theme -- "Creators are Changemakers" -- will thread through the event’s programming, from the keynote presentation by best-selling author and one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, Malcolm Gladwell, to diverse discussions and presentations aimed at helping social impact-driven creators around the world to learn, connect, and celebrate their work. Re: Unity Software - U

Why I’m buying Unity:

Unity Software (NYSE:U) IPO'd in September, an event which was overshadowed by the big Snowflake splash. Unity is already a very large company with a market cap of almost $23 billion. In my hunt for 10-baggers, I usually look to smaller companies to deliver. Unity, however, has a vast market opportunity ahead. Unity's software is one of the two major platforms upon which video games are built (Epic Games' Unreal Engine is the other). But what's really exciting about Unity is the company's platform for AR apps.

Here's my case for buying this stock now, before they go even higher.

Unity Software will be instrumental in an augmented reality universe.
Unity Software is already a huge force in gaming. More than half of all video games are created on Unity's platform. Every month, 3 billion apps created on the Unity system are downloaded into computers and smartphones. And yet, gaming is only the tip of the iceberg. Unity's 3D platform is now being used in many industries, including film, animation, advertising, automotive, manufacturing, architecture, engineering, and construction.

Unity's gaming platform can be divided into two sets of solutions. People developing a game can pay to subscribe to Unity's Create Solutions, a set of tools to create a game. Once a game is ready, the creators can use Unity's Operate Solutions to deploy the game across multiple platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and the leading augmented and virtual reality (VR) platforms. If a company uses Unity's vast distribution network, Unity Software earns a percentage of its sales.

Unity enjoys a strong duopoly in the marketplace, sharing space with the Unreal Engine, which is owned by Epic Games. While the Unreal Engine is considered more useful for high-end graphics, Unity has an advantage on the mobile side. Right now, Epic is involved in serious litigation with Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) over payments to the App Store. The judge in the case has issued an order restraining Apple from retaliating against the Unreal Engine. Nonetheless, nervous third parties might jump ship to the Unity platform instead.

Unity has already taken the lead in augmented and virtual reality. In 2019, the company said that about 90% of the applications created for the Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) HoloLens were created on the Unity platform. Perhaps one of the most commonly known examples of AR, Pokemon Go, was made using the Unity engine.

While we don't know how big AR will be, some very smart people -- like Apple's Tim Cook -- think it's going to be an incredibly large opportunity. "In a few years, we're not going to be able to imagine our lives without (AR)," Cook said in an HBO documentary. "It's that profound a platform." Unity's software platform is well-poised to be a beneficiary of this worldwide trend.

Unity Furthers Commitment to Social Responsibility, Partners With Playing for the Planet, Pledge 1%, and Rare Beauty’s Rare Impact Fund
Wed, October 21, 2020, 3:00 PM GMT+2·6 mins read

U
+4.42%
Unity (NYSE: U), the world’s leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content, today announced that it has partnered with three groups to further its commitment to social responsibility: Playing for the Planet -- an alliance of private video game sector member organizations who have committed to harnessing the power of their platforms to take action on the climate crisis, Pledge 1% -- the global movement empowering companies to donate 1% of product, profit, equity, and/or employee time to improve their local communities, and Rare Beauty -- the mission-driven cosmetics company founded by Selena Gomez with the purpose of reducing the stigma associated with mental health. These partnerships mark the first major initiatives since Unity announced its Unity Charitable Fund. Seeded with 750,000 shares of Unity equity--which at the time of Unity’s initial public offering was $39.0 million, based upon the initial public offering price of $52.00 per share--the fund directs grants to nonprofits and social impact for-profits in the areas of education, inclusive economic opportunity, environment, human wellness, safety, and accessibility.

"Unity’s support for Playing for the Planet, Pledge 1%, and Rare Beauty are the first of what will be a series of many commitments that align with our efforts to make education and economic opportunity widely available, to ensure privacy and online safety, to promote wellness, and to demonstrate environmental responsibility through sustainability initiatives," said Jessica Lindl, Vice President, Social Impact, Unity. "Partnering with these incredible organizations extends our promise to all creators - from all walks of life - that change is possible, actionable, and most importantly available to all."

The Playing for the Planet Alliance, which is convened by the UN Environment Programme and was announced at the United Nations Climate Summit in September 2019, brings together the biggest companies in the video games industry to formally commit to harnessing the power of their platforms to take action on the climate crisis. In total, the members of the Alliance have the ability to reach more than 1 billion video game players. In joining the Alliance, members have made commitments ranging from integrating green activations in games, reducing their emissions and supporting the global environmental agenda through initiatives ranging from planting millions of trees to reducing plastic in their products. This marks Unity Social Impact's first environment and sustainability initiative commitment, specifically aiming to elevate and rate the Made with Unity experiences that are more eco friendly or impact the environment.

Playing for the Planet has brought climate awareness and action to an unprecedented number of gamers around the world," said Sam Barratt, Chief for Youth, Education & Advocacy in the UN Environment Programme’s Ecosystems Division. "Unity’s commitment will provide a major boost to the alliance’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions, protect and restore forests and explore the introduction of new ‘green nudges’ in game design."

Pledge 1% is a global movement that inspires, educates, and empowers every entrepreneur, company, and employee to be a force for good. Pledge 1% provides a flexible framework for companies of all sizes to donate 1% of their product, profit, employee time, and/or equity to causes of their choosing. Unity joins more than 10,000 Pledge 1% member companies from 100+ countries who are leveraging their assets to support their communities and drive meaningful social impact.

"We are thrilled to welcome Unity to the Pledge 1% movement and to celebrate their incredible leadership as a role model to others. Increasingly, we’re noting a strong trend of top companies like Unity who are setting aside equity for social impact prior to their IPOs," said Pledge 1% Chief Executive Amy Lesnick. "In today's world, it's clear that companies have an important role to play in driving solutions to our most pressing social issues. By leveraging equity, in addition to other assets such as time, expertise, product, and its global network, Unity is fortifying its commitment with the financial resources required to sustainably address these challenges and drive lasting positive change."

Rare Beauty and Unity are partnering to empower entrepreneurs and creators to improve mental health for underserved communities, a mission both organizations share. As part of the partnership, Unity and Rare Beauty are launching a separate Unity for Humanity submission category focused solely on projects that encompass themes of mental health. Unity is donating $50,000, which will go directly to the winning creators. The call for submissions in this category will open on November 16, 2020. Unity is separately donating an additional $50,000, which will go towards the Rare Beauty’s Rare Impact Fund, aimed at addressing the gaps in mental health services, with a focus on underserved communities.

"Even before Rare Beauty launched, we wanted the brand to have a strong purpose that felt authentic to our business and to our founder, Selena Gomez. Through Rare Impact, our goal is to increase awareness and support for people who need access to mental health services, which have had a profound impact on the life of our founder," said Elyse Cohen, Vice President, Social Impact at Rare Beauty. "Partnering with Unity Social Impact to support Unity creators who are building immersive experiences focused on raising awareness for and treating mental illnesses, is a natural next step in realizing this vision."

Details of the aforementioned partnership can be learned at today’s Unity for Humanity Summit: a free, two-day online event, featuring a keynote by Malcolm Gladwell and presentations by Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau, amongst other industry luminaries.
