Re: Hybrid Software

Berichtdoor K/w » 26 Feb 2018 17:14

Xaar 1201

Berichtdoor K/w » 26 Feb 2018 19:02

January/February 2018
Xaar joins forces for market adoption
http://www.printbusiness.co.uk

XAAR HAS TEAMED UP with Meteor Inkjet, a move to accelerate time to market for suppliers of large format inkjet printers for graphics and textiles markets.

The deal enables Meteor to supply the Xaar 1201 printhead, its first able to deliver aqueous as well as UV inks, with its set of electronics to control the head. It means that the manufacturers can get a machine up and running in a couple of days, says Meteor managing director Clive Ayling.

The customer will win because it’s a simpler and better offering. Xaar and Meteor will win because once the customer decides which to go with, we are there already,” he says.

Xaar is targeting display graphics and textiles with the printhead, part of a strategic move away from the ceramics sector. It can print single colours or four colours and while the idea is for it to be mounted on a scanning head, Ayling does not rule out single-pass applications in packaging where water based inkjet is already being considered essential.

This will open up new markets for Xaar because water markets based is the future. It’s for textiles and there’s lots of other places that the head will go,” says Ayling, “single-pass narrow web perhaps. There will be more uses for this head than Xaar has considered.”

Het gaat vlotjes bij Meteor.

Meteor Announces Full Support for New Fujifilm Dimatix Samba GMA 99 Printhead
Friday, February 23, 2018

Meteor Inkjet Ltd further expands its product portfolio with the addition of the HDC-GMA99 Head Driver for use with FUJIFILM Dimatix Si?MEMS Samba™ GMA 99 printheads.

Cambridge, UK – Meteor Inkjet Ltd, leading supplier of drive electronics and software for industrial inkjet printheads, is expanding its product portfolio by supporting the new Samba™ GMA 99 printhead from FUJIFILM Dimatix Inc. This latest product joins the Samba GMA 33, for which Meteor was the first to announce support last year following close collaboration with the company.

Based on state-of-the-art silicon micro-electro-mechanical systems (Si-MEMS), Samba GMA printheads are the most advanced technology available today. With 1152 nozzles, a native resolution of 300 dpi and ink drop size of 5 pl, GMA 99 printheads can jet a wide range of fluids including UV curable, solvent and aqueous inks. They are ideally suited for scanning applications such as textile, indoor signage, soft signage and high-quality UV printing.

Accessed via Gigabit Ethernet, each Meteor PCC-E Print Controller accommodates up to 8 GMA 99 printheads through the new HDC-GMA99 Head Driver. Gigabit Ethernet products have been an integral part of Meteor’s product portfolio since 2013. Enabling full binary and greyscale capabilities of the GMA 99 printhead, Meteor drive electronics and software are capable of producing complex, multi-pulse waveforms to control printhead drop ejection volume, velocity and timing, allowing system builders to get the best from these printheads. Meteor’s ability to support ultra-high data rates, large image buffers and long cable lengths means scanning machines can accommodate any number of printheads.

Clive Ayling, Managing Director at Meteor comments: “Meteor has long enjoyed a close working partnership with FUJIFILM Dimatix and this allows us to release our electronics and software at the same time as Dimatix releases sample volumes of the printhead. This ensures customers are ‘ready to go’ when the head is in full production.”

In battle for world’s top PC seller, HP gains at expense of Lenovo, Dell

In Printing, HP Inc. reports total hardware units increased 14% year-to-year with consumer units up 7% and commercial units up 73% in 4Q17. TBR believes the explosive growth in commercial units is the success of graphics printing, driven by HP Inc.’s Indigo and PageWide series, driving deals such as ePac Flexible Packaging purchasing 10 additional HP Indigo 20000 digital presses in February, on top of their existing three.

Re: Global Graphics

Alea iacta est!

Gary Fry, Global Graphics CEO comments, "I am very pleased with our top line growth and especially that we have attained another milestone in 2017, that of exceeding revenue of €20 million. Our acquisitions strategy and our focus on new product development have strengthened our position in the fast-growing high-speed digital inkjet market. We expect continued growth in 2018 with even stronger synergies between the operating companies."

The consolidated pre-tax result was a loss of €0.16 million in 2017 compared with a pre-tax profit of €0.13 million in 2016. The reduction in profitability of €0.29 million is due to:

* an increase in revenue of €4.51 million;
* an increase in cost of sales of €3.51 million
* an increase in selling, general and administrative expenses of €1.02 million;
* a decrease in research and development expenses of €0.95 million;
* an increase in other operating expenses of €0.54 million; and
* a decrease in foreign exchange gains of €0.67 million.

Included in selling, general and administrative expenses is amortisation of €1.52 million (2016: €1.07 million) related to intangible assets recognised as a result of acquisitions and €0.06 million (2016: €0.95 million) related to share-based payment expenses.

Included in research and development expenses is the capitalisation and amortisation of internally generated intangible assets. During the period there was a net expense of €0.18 million (2016: €1.52 million) related to these assets.

Redundancy costs of €0.28 million are included in other operating expenses. This expense relates to a minor reorganisation in Global Graphics Software, which is expected to result in annualised cost savings of approximately €0.90 million, taking effect from 1 January 2018.

Also included in other operating expenses is a charge of €0.23 million for a fair value adjustment to contingent consideration payable for the acquisition of Meteor Inkjet Limited ("Meteor"). The growth in revenue seen during 2017 in Meteor surpassed expectations used when modelling the acquisition date fair value of contingent consideration. The model was subsequently revised for current forecasts and expectations, which concluded that it is expected that the contingent consideration payments will be made earlier, thereby increasing the present value of those payments.

The exchange rate gains are primarily due to the revaluation of currency balances held at the balance sheet date and the change in exchange rates during the year.

The Group presents EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) and adjusted profit when reporting its financial results to provide investors with an additional tool to evaluate the Group's results in a manner that focuses on what the Group believes to be its underlying business operations. The Group's management believes that the inclusion of adjusted financial results provides consistency and comparability with past reports.

Additional commentary and analysis of the Group's consolidated results for the year ending 31 December 2017 can be found in the aforementioned annual report and financial statements.

CEO’S REVIEW

I am very pleased with our top line growth and especially that we have attained another milestone in 2017, that of exceeding revenue of €20 million. Although our profitability is slightly down on the previous year, during Q4 we executed a reorganisation within Global Graphics Software which should see profitability improve in the future.

I am particularly pleased with the shape the business is taking and the direction in which we are moving in order to transact on opportunities arising from growth markets, particularly the market for industrial inkjet, not to mention the opportunity for growth offered by expanding URW’s footprint into new geographical territories.

Following the recent acquisitions, we have reviewed how we manage and operate the businesses and refined our operating segments to now report results from our three operating companies, namely Global Graphics Software, Meteor Inkjet, and URW.

Our strategy is to grow each of these business units, either into new markets or geographically, and to explore more synergies between them beyond those that currently exist, which are proving very fruitful.

In the Software segment we have continued to expand and enhance our products to be an even more compelling solution in the label and packaging market. Testament to that, we expanded our relationship with HP Indigo who chose the Harlequin RIP as the RIP engine inside their new digital front end (DFE), HP Production Pro for Indigo Labels & Packaging. Durst Group, a new customer for us, selected the Harlequin RIP and the ScreenPro screening engine to optimize data throughput in their new workflow, Durst Symphony. Symphony will drive the Durst Tau 330 digital and packaging presses.

Contracts with several other new customers have been signed, some of which cannot be announced due to confidentiality agreements in place. I mentioned industrial inkjet earlier. We are seeing growth for high-speed inkjet applications across multiple sectors and this plays to our strengths. A large and growing market is developing as this relatively new technology takes hold. The growth in Meteor Inkjet’s revenue for 2017 is testament to this.

With that in mind, to keep focussed on these growing markets, we have transitioned the sales and support of our traditional Harlequin business, the RTI acquisition made in 2015, to our long-standing partner Xitron, LLC. Xitron will fulfil and support orders for customers of the Harlequin MultiRIP business for all commercial offset and flexographic markets. The agreement took effect from 1 January 2018 and covers the RTI customer base for Harlequin MultiRIP Computer-to-Plate and Computer-to-Film applications worldwide.

Our font business, through URW in Germany, has had a very robust year achieving remarkable revenue and operating profit. A one-off license fee for a large printer manufacturer helped make it an outstanding year, but we have also seen increased volume from some key existing customers. This was further supported by winning a new contract for design work that should result in another year of strong revenue in 2018.
