ArcelorMittal schuift conversiedatum obligaties op
ArcelorMittal heeft de conversiedatum van 1 miljard dollar aan onderhands geplaatste converteerbare obligaties opgeschoven naar 31 januari 2024. Dit maakte de staalreus woensdagochtend bekend.

De obligaties werden uitgeven op 28 december 2009, exclusief voor Credit Agricole Corporate en Investment Bank, en zijn niet genoteerd. De obligaties zouden in januari worden omgezet naar preferente aandelen. Dit wordt nu 31 januari 2024. Andere voorwaarden blijven ongewijzigd.

ArcelorMittal to extend its production lines in Brazil
ArcelorMittal Brazil plans to install a new production line in the municipality of Glorinha, in Porto Alegre.
The investment is worth BRL 52.5 million ($10.2m) and will create nearly 100 direct jobs by 2022, according to ArcelorMittal.
The steelmaker signed a protocol of intentions with the Rio Grande do Sul State government, through the Secretariat of Economic Development and Tourism (Sedetur) and the Secretariat of Finance (Sefaz).
According to the document, the state government has committed to granting ArcelorMittal a deferral of tax payment, considering it is an investor in industrial machinery and equipment in the state.
ArcelorMittal has an annual installed capacity in Brazil of 12.5 million tonnes of steel. The company is already present in seven Brazilian states and employs around 17,000 people

Het koersdoel wordt door de analisten verhoogd van 21,00 EUR naar 22,50 EUR.

UBS verhoogt koersdoel ArcelorMittal
UBS heeft het koersdoel voor het aandeel ArcelorMittal verhoogd van 24,00 naar 25,00 euro met handhaving van het koopadvies. Dit bleek donderdag uit een analyse van de zakenbank.

UBS wees daarin op de stijgende trend in de ontwikkeling van de staalprijzen sinds oktober van het vorig jaar door een vraagherstel na de coronadips.

Voor 2021 heeft UBS dan ook de taxatie voor het operationeel resultaat (EBITDA) op 8,7 miljard dollar gesteld tegen een verwachte 4,1 miljard dollar in 2020.

Het staalbedrijf treedt op 11 februari met de resultaten over het vierde kwartaal naar buiten en daarvoor gaat UBS uit van een EBITDA van 1,5 miljard dollar tegen 990 miljoen dollar in het derde kwartaal.

Bij de kwartaalpublicatie geeft ArcelorMittal ook meer details over zijn dividendbeleid en UBS voorziet voor 2020 circa 0,30 dollar per aandeel en een bonus die gebaseerd is op de vrije kasstroom. Over 2021 voorziet UBS een dividend van 2,08 dollar per aandeel.

ArcelorMittal Spain re-starts Gijón`s sintering plant
ArcelorMittal tells Kallanish that the iron ore sintering plant at its Gijón mill in Spain resumed operations on 7 January. 'Sinter A' was halted in April 2020 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the steel sector.
The restart of the plant follows the recovery in steel demand and it was successfully executed despite limitations due to the modification of the integrated environmental authorization, ArcelorMittal explains. The installation of a new bag filter has not been completed, but works are advancing, it adds.
ArcelorMittal estimates a scheduled maintenance of 'Sinter B' will occur during the first half of 2021, once its other sintering plant is running with the new bag filter.

ArcelorMittal Gent BF expected to restart early Feb
ArcelorMittal is expected to restart the temporarily idled blast furnace B at its site in Gent, Belgium, in early February, Kallanish learns from market sources.
The furnace was idled in September 2020 for relining. Its temporary closure forced the group in early September to restart a number of furnaces idled in Europe in the spring of 2020 in response to the slump in demand linked with coronavirus. The restart of the 2.3 million tonnes/year furnace in Belgium will be good news for the market, as demand remains firm and availability of flat products in Europe tight.
ArcelorMittal's communication department did not issue a statement on the restart of the furnace, but sources in the market confirmed the timeline.


ArcelorMittal Spain increases output at Sestao
ArcelorMittal tells Kallanish that its Spanish electric arc furnace-based flat products plant at Sestao (ACB) has begun increasing its monthly production.
"ACB Sestao output has already reached 45,000 tonnes per month in December 2020. The steelmaker estimates being able to increase its activity progressively during this year if the health and economic situation allows it," according to a company spokesperson. ArcelorMittal restarted operations of the EAF in Sestao in September last year after having the facility halted nearly six months following the adverse steel market scenario as a result of the coronavirus crisis. The steelmaker saw an improvement in demand in its main markets and returned to the production levels seen in early March of 40,000t per month of hot-rolled, pickled and oiled coils steel products.
The ACB plant has an annual production capacity of 900,000t, as well as the ability to "stop/start" its operations at minimal cost in order to adapt to market conditions, ArcelorMittal adds


ArcelorMittal raises further EU Q2 coil offers
ArcelorMittal is communicating to its clients a further price hike for orders related to second quarter deliveries, Kallanish learns from market sources.
After a series of price increases in the latest part of 2020, the company is now raising again its target price to €730/tonne ex-works for HRC across Europe. CRC is set to be offered at €820/t ex-works base while HDG at €850/t ex-works base.
According to Kallanish price series, the rally for HRC transaction prices in Northern Europe effectively started at the end of July 2020. The price has since recovered some €200-250/t and has reached a new record level of €610-650/t ex-works. Most sources believe the recovery trend is still ongoing and a real stabilisation of the market is still not in sight.


ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt plans blast furnace natural gas conversion
ArcelorMittal will convert the blast furnaces at its Eisenhüttenstadt mill to operate on natural gas, to make the production of steel products more sustainable. To this end, it has also forged a cooperation with Leipzig-based utility VNG (Verbundnetzgas) Handel & Vertrieb, Kallanish learns from the steelmaker.
ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt initially plans to reduce CO2 emissions in steel production by around -5% per year from 2021 through the conversion of fuels for the blast furnaces. To achieve this, it will use natural gas in the blast furnace to reduce coal requirement. Apart from cutting CO2 emissions, the conversion will also bring down energy costs, the steelmaker claims. The furnace conversion is scheduled for completion by mid-2021, with the cost of this investment amounting to around €4 million ($4.9m).
Also, together with VNG, AM Eisenhüttenstadt intends to add CO2-neutral hydrogen in a later step, as soon as it is available in sufficient quantities and at economic cost. This goes together with the group's European climate strategy to cut CO2 emissions by -30% until 2030, and to have climate-neutral production by 2050.
