Bayer heeft 4 miljard veil voor Amerikaanse biotechbedrijf

Bayer kondigt de overname aan van Asklepios BioPharmaceutical, een Amerikaanse specialist in gentherapie. De Duitse groep betaalt nu 2 miljard dollar en in de toekomst mogelijk nog eens 2 miljard dollar afhankelijk van het behalen van toekomstige mijlpalen. Voor Bayer is het de grootste overname in de farmasector sinds de deal met Schering AG in 2006.

In 2018 nam Bayer de Amerikaanse chemiereus Monsanto over voor 63 miljard dollar. Deze overname heeft de uitvinder van de asprine alleen nog maar hoofdpijn bezorgd. Bayer is verwikkeld in duizenden rechtszaken in de VS wegens de onkruidverdelger Roundup. De slachtoffers menen kanker te hebben gekregen door Roundup. Volgens Bayer is Roundup veilig.

Berlin - Detailed results from the Phase III FIDELIO-DKD study demonstrated that the investigational drug finerenone slowed the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with CKD and type 2 diabetes (T2D) compared to placebo.

Bayer plans to submit applications for marketing authorization for finerenone for an indication in patients with chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes to health authorities by end of this year.

LONDON, Oct 26 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The drugs-to-seeds
company is buying gene therapy specialist Asklepios
BioPharmaceutical for $4 bln. It’s a rich price, but the German
group needs to offset patent expiries and shake off the
disastrous Monsanto deal. Expanding in a rapidly growing sector
offers some protection.

CONTEXT NEWS
- Bayer said on Oct. 26 it would acquire unlisted U.S.
biotech firm Asklepios BioPharmaceutical for as much as $4
billion.
- The German drugs and seeds manufacturer will pay $2
billion upfront and up to an additional $2 billion in milestone
payments if Asklepios hits certain development achievements.
- Asklepios, based in North Carolina, raised $235 million in
a funding round backed by TPG Capital and Vida Ventures in April
2019.
- Bayer shares were up 1.2% at 42.93 euros by 0842 GMT on
Oct. 26.

maker Bayer said the costs of its settlement over
claims its Roundup weedkiller causes cancer, initially put at
$11 billion, would be $750 million higher.
Bayer struck an agreement in principle with U.S. plaintiff's
lawyers in June but a judge later took issue with a side
arrangement on future cases that may yet be lodged, known as a
class plan.
"Bayer took an additional provision in the third quarter to
cover the increased cost of a revised class plan, as it is far
enough along in the negotiations to know that the new plan will
come in at approximately 2 billion U.S. dollars, an increase
over the original cost of 1.25 billion U.S. dollars," Bayer said
in a statement on Monday.

Bevestiging van de theorie dat het slechte nieuws al verwerkt zit in de koers.
Ik heb een order geplaatst onder de 39€ maar ik zie dit eigenlijk niet direct ingevuld worden.
Hopelijk nog voor het einde van het jaar een settlement en dan gestaag groeien richting de 100€
